A court in Moscow fined Match Group (owner of Tinder) 10 million rubles. for repeated refusal to localize the personal data of Russians, the press service reported.
The company was convicted under Part 9 of Art. 13.11 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (repeated failure by the operator, when collecting personal data, to ensure the recording, systematization, accumulation, storage of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation using databases located on the territory of the Russian Federation). Initially, she was threatened with a fine of up to 18 million rubles.
It is specified that the protocol was drawn up after the owner of the dating site did not comply with the requirements of Roskomnadzor, presented back in May 2023.
In addition, under a similar article, the court fined the streaming service Twitch, he was fined 13 million rubles.
For Tinder, this is the second fine for refusing to localize the data of Russians. For the first time the company was fined in July last year, then the fine amounted to 2 million rubles.
Tinder dating service stopped work in Russia at the end of June. On June 30, the app disappeared from the App Store and was no longer available on Google Play. The Match Group (owner of Tinder) announced on May 2 that the app would not be available in Russia. At the same time, Tinder limited access to paid options for Russians back in April 2022.
According to the law on personal data of 2015, companies are required to store the data of Russians in databases located on the territory of Russia. In case of violation of the law, the service may be blocked. In 2019, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law imposing fines for this offense. Spotify, Apple, WhatsApp (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist and banned in Russia), Airbnb, Google, Twitch, Pinterest, and others have already received fines for refusing to localize data.
