At the end of 2022, South Korea increased the import of Russian coal by 24 percent (up to 26.5 million tons). It is reported by “Kommersant“with reference to the Argus Russian coal report.
For South Korea, Russian coal has become more attractive due to significant discounts, while Russia has pressed Australia in this market, which was previously the main supplier of this fuel to South Korea.
The republic began importing coal from Russia from mid-2022, importing about two million tons every month. At the same time, Australian exports to South Korea fell by a quarter compared to 2021.
It is noted that as of the end of December, Australian coal of 6,000 kcal on FOB terms was sold at $409.5 per ton, while Russian coal was half the price ($224 per ton).
It is worth noting that Moscow considers South Korea among the countries unfriendly to Russia.
