Delivery times from Asia to Europe have increased by 10-15 days due to the escalation in the Red Sea, European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Paolo Gentiloni said. Transportation costs increased by 400%.

“Due to the redirection of shipments from the Red Sea, delivery times between Europe and Asia increased by 10-15 days, and their costs increased by 400%,” Mr. Gentiloni said at a press conference (quoted from TASS).

The European Commissioner hopes that this will not lead to a significant increase in inflation in the European Union, however, in his opinion, further disruptions will lead to higher prices.

Shelling of international ships in the Red Sea increased in December 2023. This happened against the backdrop of a war between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas, which is supported by the Houthis. The US and UK have repeatedly struck Houthi positions in Yemen. Ansar Allah Movement promised continue to attack American and British ships.
