The telecast of the coronation of King Charles III of Great Britain was watched by 20 million people – 9 million fewer viewers watched this event than the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, reported newspaper The Guardian.

According to the publication, the broadcast of the coronation of Charles III became the most viewed of the year, this is due, among other things, to bad weather in some parts of the country, due to which people stayed at home. At the same time, 29 million British viewers watched the funeral of Charles III’s mother, Queen Elizabeth II, last autumn.
According to the data cited by the Guardian, the vast majority of viewers – 15.5 million people – watched the BBC report on the day of the coronation of Charles III.
The coronation of Charles III was the first in Britain in 70 years: the last was the coronation of Elizabeth II in June 1953, and before it – Edward VII in 1902.
Elizabeth II died on September 8 at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland. She ruled for 70 years and 7 months, the longest reign in British history. The new king was her eldest son, 73-year-old Charles, who took the throne name Charles III.
On September 19, the Queen’s coffin was placed in a tomb in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. A day earlier, a public farewell ceremony for the Queen, which took place from September 14 at the Palace of Westminster, ended.
