Speaker of the Tomsk City Duma Chingis Akataev announced that he will leave his post early. He made this statement at today’s meeting of the presidium of the political council of the regional branch of United Russia.

“At the end of the meeting, Chingis Akataev made a statement on the early resignation of the chairman of the Tomsk City Duma, which was considered by the members of the presidium and supported unanimously. Members of the presidium of the regional political council of United Russia thanked Chingis Mametovich for his work as speaker of the city parliament,”— it says in a statement from the regional office’s press service. The speaker did not answer Kommersant’s call.

As Kommersant previously reported, at the beginning of this week, speaking at a conference of the Tomsk city branch of United Russia, Mr. Akataev said that the regional authorities are seeking his resignation. Then he called the situation “incomprehensible”, connected it with the activities of the internal political bloc of the regional administration and stated that he would not voluntarily leave his post. November 29 in his Telegram channel Chingis Akataev reported on the start of work in the City Duma of the conciliation commission on the budget for 2024.

The former vice-governor of the Tomsk region, Chingis Akataev, was elected as a deputy in 2020, and then as speaker of the City Duma. He is a member of United Russia and is a member of the political council of the regional party organization. The next session of the Tomsk City Duma, at which the resignation of the speaker should be approved, is scheduled for December 5.
