The Central Election Commission reported a 10-year record turnout in local elections of 45.65% – Kommersant

The head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia, Ella Pamfilova, announced a record turnout for ten years in the elections, which took place on September 8-10. She spoke about this at a meeting of the commission, summing up the results of the single voting day (VVD).

“The past campaigns, we conducted more than 4,200 of them during this period. 31.5 million of our voters out of 67 million who were included in the voter lists took part in them. And the overall turnout has increased and is quite a high figure – this is a high turnout – 45.65%,” said the head of the Central Election Commission (quoted from “Interfax”). Ms. Pamfilova clarified that these figures do not apply to federal elections.

Based on the results of a single voting day, the Central Election Commission invalidated 2,312 ballots at 24 polling stations in 14 regions of the country. On the scale of the entire campaign, as Ella Pamfilova said, this number is 0.005%.

At the commission meeting, Ms. Pamfilova added that during the election campaign the CEC received 2,362 written appeals. Of these, 580 concerned attempts to influence the outcome of the vote, and “the rest were on the substance of the campaign, but not about violations.” The Central Election Commission also accepted five complaints about the work of the commission; three such appeals from Khakassia were satisfied.

From September 8 to 10, elections at various levels were held in 86 regions of Russia. As a result, all current governors were re-elected for a new term. The United Russia party improved its results, gaining a majority in regional parliaments and city dumas. According to experts, the presidential elections in March 2024 will be held with the same calm and lack of drama.
