The Central Election Commission (CEC) has registered Vladimir Putin as a candidate in the presidential elections, which will be held March 15-17, 2024. The decision was made unanimously, a Kommersant correspondent reports.
The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, presented the certificate of registration of the candidate to the co-chairman of Vladimir Putin’s election headquarters, Vladimir Mashkov. Mr. Mashkov promised to hand it over to Mr. Putin “in the very near future.”
Of the selected 60 thousand signatures in support of the registration of Vladimir Putin as a candidate for the elections, 91 signatures (0.15%) were declared invalid, said commission secretary Natalya Budarina. According to her, there were no false signatures.
Vladimir Putin, who is running for election as a self-nominated candidate, needed to collect from 300 thousand to 315 thousand signatures. In total, 315 thousand signatures from 89 regions were submitted to the CEC last week.
The Central Election Commission also considered the issue of registering a second list of Vladimir Putin’s proxies. They were another 198 people, including TV presenter Dmitry Guberniev, singer Yulia Chicherina, actor Sergei Garmash and singer Nadezhda Babkina. At the end of 2023, the CEC registered the first list of 346 proxies. Thus, the number of registered proxies of Vladimir Putin has reached 544.
