The Central Election Commission refused to register Boris Nadezhdin, a representative of the Civil Initiative party, as a candidate for the post of President of Russia. The decision was made unanimously by the commission. The politician announced his intention to appeal the decision of the Central Election Commission to the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation.
As a result of the audit, the Central Election Commission invalidated 9,147 signatures in support of Boris Nadezhdin. 95,587 signatures were recognized as reliable.
Boris Nadezhdin called the decision to refuse registration of the candidate as expected. According to him, he has no complaints against the Central Election Commission, but he does have complaints against legislators, since it is almost impossible to collect high-quality voter signatures in a short time.
The politician proposed to postpone consideration of the issue of his registration until February 10, but the Central Election Commission refused him.
Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, commenting on the decision of the Central Election Commission to refuse to register Mr. Nadezhdin as a candidate, noted that there were “many flaws” in the signatures collected by the politician. “There are certain parameters that must be fulfilled by the candidate. And what we heard today from the Central Election Commission is a large number of flaws in the signatures and the invalidity of a large number of signatures. That is, this important criterion is not met. There is nothing to comment on here, the CEC strictly follows the rules that are established for candidates,” Mr. Peskov said during a conference call.
The CEC also refused to register the leader of the Communists of Russia, Sergei Malinkovich. His 96,019 signatures were recognized as valid, 8,979 – invalid.
