The Central Election Commission found “surprising errors” in signatures for Nadezhdin – Kommersant

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission Nikolai Bulaev said that in the signature sheets that Boris Nadezhdin (Civil Initiative) and Sergei Malinkovich (Communists of Russia) submitted for nomination as candidates for the presidential election, the Central Election Commission found errors that caused surprise. Mr. Bulaev said that the commission invites Messrs. Nadezhdin and Malinkovich to visit the commission on February 5 to present to them the results of inspection procedures and protocols on violations identified during the inspection.

As the deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission stated, the commission, as a rule, does not take into account “inaccuracies in spelling” identified in some subscription lists. “But when we see dozens of people who are no longer in this world, and they signed, the question of cleanliness and ethical standards arises, which are also used by the signature collector. To some extent, the candidate is involved in this,” Mr. Bulaev commented on the preliminary results of checking the signature lists of candidates from the “Civil Initiative” and “Communists of Russia” (quote from video broadcasts from a meeting of the Central Election Commission).

The deputy chairman of the Central Election Commission emphasized that the commission does not allow any subjective assessments when checking signatures. The head of the Central Election Commission, Ella Pamfilova, said during the meeting that the commission plans to announce a decision on the admission of the remaining candidates to the presidential elections on February 7.

The Russian presidential elections are scheduled for March 17, 2024. Voting will take place over three days – March 15, 16 and 17. At the moment, the Central Election Commission has registered four presidential candidates: Leonid Slutsky (LDPR), Nikolai Kharitonov (KPRF), Vladislav Davankov (New People) and Vladimir Putin (self-nominated).

From participating in the election race refused Andrei Bogdanov (Russian Party of Freedom and Justice) and chairman of the Russian People’s Union party Sergei Baburin. Irina Sviridova, nominated from the non-parliamentary Democratic Party of Russia, did not collected required 100 thousand signatures. Failed Self-nominated Anatoly Batashev and the Russian Rada must collect the required number of signatures.
