The number of applicants for nomination as candidates for the presidential election was 29 people, said the head of the Central Election Commission Ella Pamfilova. Three days ago, December 20, she spokethat the election commission received applications from 16 candidates.

“Many of our colleagues are now at the congresses of candidates, of which there are already 29,” Ms. Pamfilova said today, December 23, at a meeting of the Central Election Commission (quoted by Interfax).

Presidential elections will be held March 15–17, 2024. On December 19, the LDPR congress nominated the head of the party, Leonid Slutsky, as a candidate for the presidential elections. On December 22, the plenum of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation supported the candidacy of deputy Nikolai Kharitonov.

December 20 Central Election Commission registered initiative group to nominate Vladimir Putin as a candidate. On December 21, Mr. Putin’s election headquarters opened in Moscow’s Gostiny Dvor. Its co-chairs were Artem Zhoga, Vladimir Mashkov and Maryana Lysenko, they held a meeting with those responsible for collecting signatures from the Popular Front and United Russia.
