The Central Bank of Russia plans to present updated banknotes in denominations of 1,000 and 5,000 rubles in the summer of 2023. About it informed Deputy Chairman of the Central Bank Sergei Belov.
“The upgraded banknotes will have an improved design, an improved security complex, and high wear resistance. The modernization will provide reliable protection against counterfeiting and improve the quality of banknotes in circulation,” Belov said at the annual meeting of credit institutions with the Bank of Russia.
Summer 2022 Belov told Izvestia that the Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, the building of the Nizhny Novgorod Fair, the Nizhny Novgorod stadium, the Chkalov Stairs, the State Bank building, the monument to Maxim Gorky and the Volga River may appear on a 1000-ruble banknote. The deputy chairman also spoke about the likely images on a banknote of 5,000 rubles. – Sevastyanov’s house, the Ural Range, the dam of the pond on the Iset River, a panoramic view of Yekaterinburg, a monument to the soldiers of the Ural Volunteer Tank Corps, as well as monuments of constructivism.
Last time the Central Bank introduced new banknote of 100 rubles. in June last year. Then the bank said that the updated banknotes would be put into circulation gradually and be legal tender on a par with the existing hundred-ruble banknotes of the 1997 model. Then sources in the association reported that Russian ATMs were not ready to accept new banknotes with a face value of 100 rubles.
In March 2021, the press service of the Central Bank announced the planned modernization of banknotes from 2021 to 2025. Banknotes of 10, 50, 100, 500, 1000 and 5000 rubles will fall under the update. As part of the improvements, the design will be changed and protection against damage and counterfeiting will be improved.
