The Central Bank revised the assessment of the balance of payments in June from deficit to surplus

The Bank of Russia revised its assessment of the current account balance in June from a deficit of $1.4 billion to a surplus of $1.2 billion. The reason for the revision was not specified. In July, according to preliminary estimates of the Central Bank, the balance also turned out to be positive and amounted to $1.8 billion. press office regulator.

The press release also states that, according to preliminary estimates of the Bank of Russia, the surplus in the balance of payments of the Russian Federation for January-July amounted to $25.2 billion, which is $140.2 billion less than in the same period last year. The regulator believes that the decrease in the trade surplus by 68.4% played a decisive role in reducing the surplus. According to the Central Bank, in July the figure was $7.3 billion, and the trade surplus for January-July was $64.4 billion ($204 billion last year).

In mid-July, the Central Bank published a preliminary estimate of the balance of payments of the Russian Federation, according to which the current account balance in June for the first time since August 2020 gone negative by $1.4 billion. Analysts of the Solid Numbers Telegram channel then declared “Kommersant”, which, taking into account seasonality, the balance still remained positive – about $ 1.8 billion.
