557 banks and companies from 20 countries have connected to the Russian analogue of the international SWIFT system – the Financial Message Transmission System (SPFS) of the Bank of Russia. This was stated in the presentation of the first deputy chairman of the Central Bank, Vladimir Chistyukhin, shown at the Russia forum, reports TASS.
At the beginning of December, the Central Bank reported that 150 non-residents from 16 countries had joined the SPFS. At the end of 2022, the regulator said that just over 100 organizations use the system.
After the outbreak of hostilities on the territory of Ukraine, the European Union disconnected the Russian banks VTB, Otkritie, Novikombank, Promsvyazbank, Sovcombank and others from the SWIFT system. The head of the Central Bank, Elvira Nabiullina, said that disconnection from SWIFT is one of the most painful sanctions.
