Sellers are not ready to refuse – Kommersant FM

Suppliers are refusing compensation for products damaged during the fire at the Wildberries warehouse. The marketplace announced this and published a message on its internal service, expressing gratitude to partners who decided not to return money for lost products. According to the company, there were several hundred such sellers; they decided to support the platform during a difficult period. Wildberries noted that other suppliers, if desired, can also refuse compensation; to do this, they just need to inform the technical support department about their decision.

However, regardless of the choice of sellers, everyone will receive payments, Ekaterina Sanchenko, head of the Wildberries press service, told Kommersant FM: “Wildberries responded quite quickly to the current difficult situation, and already on January 15 the first payments began. More than half of the sellers whose goods were stored in the warehouse in Shushary received their compensation.

And we were faced with the fact that hundreds of people wrote appeals, wanted to help us, support us and offered to refuse their compensation. And according to internal regulations, when we receive mass messages on one topic, we are obliged to classify them into one category, and therefore an appeal was published on the sellers’ portal asking that such messages be marked as a separate category.

But let me clarify: absolutely all sellers whose goods were damaged in Shushary will receive payments, even if the seller voluntarily refuses them. We will not take this money and do not encourage anyone to refuse their compensation. On the contrary, it will be help and support for us if the seller uses this money to develop his business and promote it on the marketplace.”

“Kommersant FM” contacted the sellers whose goods were destroyed during the fire and found out how they reacted to the marketplace’s statement:

“On January 16, after 21:00, we received a message from Wildberries that a group of sellers who refused to pay. They wrote a very touching message: “Dear partners, thank you for your support.” But, to be honest, we are not sure that there are really such sellers, because business is business.”

“Our losses during the fire amounted to 470 thousand rubles. Representatives of the site wrote that they will begin partial payments starting on January 15. As I understand it, the marketplace will pay compensation in installments over a period of time. The first accrual has already appeared on our balance. We are a little surprised by the calculations in the report, because the warehouse in Shushary was one of the cheapest in terms of logistics, which was calculated there with a discount, but the report showed logistics without a discount. Many sellers are unhappy with this. We are not offended by the calculations in the report, but we do not plan to refuse compensation.”

“When the news came out about the refusal of compensation, of course, all the sellers in the groups in which I am a member laughed. Nobody is going to give up their money. For what? We should be compensated about 600 thousand rubles. We will spend this money on purchasing new goods, paying off debts for what we had to buy on credit.”

“We didn’t receive any payments, 500 thousand rubles worth of goods were burned. We employ 40 people, all of them have families, mortgages, and loans. We ourselves are in leasing, loans, we all have our own problems. Why should we give away our money? I don’t know a single seller who would refuse compensation. Not only do they constantly underpay, but lately there haven’t even been proper reports. We can’t do business because something is supposedly broken. For about two months now, Wildberries has been unable to stably perform its functions under the offer agreement.”

“I was transferred 142 thousand rubles, this is 100% of what I could have received from sales if the warehouse had not burned down. And Wildberries doesn’t ask you whether you need a payment or not. They simply credited a certain amount on January 15, and that’s it. Nobody asked me to give up. It seems to me that this is some kind of hoax.”

The Wildberries warehouse in the village of Shushary in St. Petersburg burned down on January 13. The All-Russian Union of Insurers estimated the damage at least 10 billion rubles. On January 15, the retailer began paying compensation to sellers, the company clarified.
