The CEC reported no comments on the presidential elections in Uzbekistan

Observers from the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia did not record any comments on the organization of the presidential elections in Uzbekistan. About it reported commission press office.
“In the elections, a system of electronic control over visiting polling stations is used. This makes it possible to eliminate double voting – this is a very important decision. In general, I did not see anything that could lead to any comments on the organization of the voting on my part, ”said Nikolai Bulaev, deputy chairman of the CEC, quoted by the press service.
In total, observers from the Russian CEC visited more than 20 polling stations in Tashkent and Samarkand. It is noted that 797 people from 47 states and 15 international organizations were also accredited as election observers.
On June 28, early voting in the presidential elections began in Uzbekistan, which lasted until July 5. The election itself started today, July 9th. Early elections became possible after the amendments to the Constitution after the referendum in May. They provide for an increase in the term of office of the head of state from five to seven years. According to the amendments, the incumbent President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the right to run for this post twice more and, if he wins the current and future elections, he will be able to rule until 2037.
Prior to the adoption of the amendments, Mirziyoyev’s mandate expired in 2026. For the first time, he took the presidency in 2016 after the death of his predecessor Islam Karimov, when he received 88% of the vote, and in 2021 he was re-elected to the post of head of state, gaining 80% of the vote .
His opponents in this election are Ulugbek Inoyatov, ex-Minister of Education and leader of the opposition left-wing People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court Robakhon Makhmudova (representative of the Adolat Social Democratic Party), and Abdushukur Khamzaev, a candidate from the Ecological Party.
