Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia introduced the logo of the Single Voting Day with the letter V. Ella Pamfilova, chairman of the commission, explained the Latin letter as a “tick” and “a symbol of support for our soldiers who are fighting for Russia.”
“We hope that all regions, without exception, will support our logo and use it in the upcoming elections,” the CEC press service quoted Pamfilova as saying.
The Single Voting Day (SVD) will take place on 10 September. Election campaigns will be held in 54 constituent entities of Russia, and this year for the first time the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions will take part in the UDG.
Member of the Federation Council Elena Afanasyeva sent a letter to Pamfilova with a proposal to make the elections one-day instead of three-day. Afanasyeva suggested returning this practice by the autumn EDG.
According to the senator, this is worth doing due to the decision of the World Health Organization (WHO) dated May 5, 2023, which refers to the termination of the emergency situation for COVID-19. Afanasyeva stressed that “the norm, acceptable in a pandemic, should not become permanent.”
