The CEC is sure that the DEG will be used in the presidential elections in 2024

Deputy Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Russia Nikolai Bulaev declaredwhich is confident in the use of remote electronic voting (DEV) in the upcoming presidential elections in the Russian Federation in 2024.

“We received 27 applications from different regions of the Russian Federation for the use of DEG on the upcoming single voting day. Among them are 13 regions where elections of senior officials and legislative assemblies are scheduled. There have never been such a number of applications for online voting, ”the press service of the CEC quotes Bulaev as saying.

In March, sources close to the presidential administration told Vedomosti that the Voronezh, Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod, Pskov, Samara, Omsk regions and Khakassia have applied for a DEG in their gubernatorial elections. Then Bulaev confirmed that consultations are underway with the regions on holding such a voting format.

The selection of regions for the DEG takes place depending on their political and technological readiness, Rostislav Turovsky, vice-president of the Center for Political Technologies, said at the time. It is noteworthy that Khakassia is headed by Valentin Konovalov, who is a member of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, which has repeatedly opposed the DEG.

According to Yury Afonin, deputy chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the election commission in the region is controlled by representatives of the United Russia party, which is why, according to Afonin, they sent applications for electronic voting in Khakassia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has not yet announced his decision to run in the upcoming 2024 elections. At the end of February, Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov named talk about Putin’s participation in the presidential election is premature. According to him, so far there are no pre-election or electoral moods, and Putin “is definitely not up to it now.”
