The CEC appointed half of the members of the election commissions of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions

The Central Election Commission (CEC) of the Russian Federation at a meeting on February 22 appointed five members each to the regional election commissions of Zaporozhye and Kherson regions.

According to the decrees of the interim governors of these regions, both commissions will consist of ten voting members. Since legislative bodies have not yet been formed in the regions, the commissions are formed on a parity basis by the heads of regions and the Central Election Commission. Candidates could be proposed by parties and public associations, the CEC accepted applications for candidates until February 21.

As CEC member Konstantin Mazurevsky said at the meeting, the electoral committee of the Zaporozhye region will include candidates submitted by five parties: the Liberal Democratic Party, A Just Russia – For Truth, New People, United Russia and the Russian Party of Pensioners. According to him, four candidates from among those appointed by the CEC are already members of the regional election committee, which last fall organized a referendum on joining the Russian Federation.

Later, Mr. Mazurevsky clarified to Kommersant that a commission had already been formed in the Zaporozhye region, since the acting head, Yevgeny Balitsky, also appointed his five. In addition to the above parties, the Regional Electoral Committee included representatives of the Communist Party of the Russian Federation, the Green Alternative party and the public organization We Are Together.

The issue of the formation of the commission of the Kherson region at the meeting was reported by a member of the CEC Yevgeny Shevchenko. According to him, the election commission from the CEC will include candidates submitted by the United Russia, A Just Russia – For Truth, New People, the Pensioners’ Party and the Public Council of the Kherson region.

Mr. Shevchenko explained to Kommersant that the decree of the acting head of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo on the appointment of his five to the electoral committee is expected next week.

Recall that last week the CEC recommended that the heads of these regions appoint two candidates to the commissions, who, after the final formation, will take the posts of chairman and deputy chairman. In the Zaporozhye region, these are the current chairman Galina Katyushchenko and the secretary of the commission Elena Sivenkova. In the election committee of the Kherson region, the CEC recommended the current head of the commission, Marina Zakharova, and a member of the election committee of Crimea, Sergei Vysotin.
