As a result of joint actions by the army of the Central African Republic and Russian forces, it was possible to repel an attack by militants from Sudan, RIA Novosti reports, citing Russian diplomats in Bangui.
According to local media, the incident occurred on Sunday near a mining site in the village of Mamun in the north of the republic. During the battle, one of the leaders of the Coalition of Patriots for Change group, Mohamed Ali, was killed.
According to the former Russian ambassador to Bangui, Vladimir Titorenko, Russian instructors are in the CAR, training government army personnel. Their stay in the country has been approved by the UN Security Council. Last June, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that the work of Russian instructors in the Central African Republic would continue.
