Deliveries of depleted uranium ammunition to Ukraine do not lead to nuclear escalation. This statement was made by British Foreign Secretary James Cleverley.
“There is no nuclear escalation. The only country in the world that talks about nuclear issues is Russia. There is no threat to Russia, it is only about helping Ukraine defend itself,” he said (quote by Sky News).
March 20 British Deputy Secretary of Defense Annabelle Goldie informedthat the kingdom plans to supply Ukraine with tank shells with depleted uranium. According to her, the ammunition is highly effective against modern tanks and armored vehicles.
Commenting on the words of the British politician, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov notedthat London has “lost its bearings” in how its actions undermine strategic stability around the world. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova named London’s actions were a provocation and drew attention to the fact that the statements were made against the backdrop of Russian-Chinese negotiations.
Russian President Vladimir Putin emphasizedthat in the case of deliveries, Russia will have to respond “appropriately”. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu notedthat the world has come one step closer to the threat of a nuclear clash. And the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin admittedthat due to the actions of Great Britain “a war to the last Ukrainian can become a war to the last European.”
