The British Royal Navy will not protect civilian ships transporting grain from Ukraine. About it reported The Guardian, citing British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps.
Earlier, there were reports in the media that the British fleet could help protect commercial ships carrying Ukrainian grain. Some publications wrote that such a commitment was allegedly given by the British Minister of Defense to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky during his visit to Kyiv last week. Shapps denied the reports.
“I don’t think I had such a conversation with President Zelensky,” said the head of the British Ministry of Defense.
He stressed that the British fleet will not take part in patrolling the Black Sea. However, the United Kingdom and other Western countries can advise Ukraine on food exports, the minister added.
Last week, Polish President Andrzej Duda said that the country would help Ukraine provide Ukrainian grain through the territory of the republic for subsequent shipment of products to the poorest countries in Africa and Asia.
