The BRICS countries called for a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine

The BRICS countries advocated a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine through dialogue and diplomacy, report “RIA Novosti” with reference to the declaration adopted at the end of the summit in South Africa.

The authors of the declaration recalled the national positions regarding the conflict in Ukraine, which were voiced at various forums, including the UN Security Council and the UN General Assembly. The BRICS member states noted the mediation and good offices offerings aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict, “including the peace mission of African leaders and the proposed path to peace.”

The final declaration of the XV BRICS summit was called “Johannesburg-2”. It covers a variety of issues that were negotiated during the year. The Argentine Republic, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates were invited to become full members of the BRICS. Full membership of new countries in the organization will begin on January 1, 2024.

The BRICS summit was held in Johannesburg from 22 to 24 August. Vladimir Putin participated in the summit via video link, Russia was represented in person by Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.
