Today, July 12, in Kerch, a ceremony was held to accept the Cyclone small missile ship of project 22800 into the Russian Navy, informed press service of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

During the ceremony, which was held under the leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Nikolai Evmenov, the Andreevsky naval flag was hoisted on the ship. At the same time, Evmenov noted the professionalism and skill of the Kerch shipbuilders – the Ministry of Defense clarified that the Cyclone was the first warship in the last 25 years to go through a full construction cycle at the enterprise.

“The ship will strengthen the surface component of the Black Sea Fleet and will effectively fulfill the tasks for its intended purpose as part of the detachments and groupings of the fleet,” the admiral said.

The event was also attended by the head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov and the head of the administration of Kerch Svyatoslav Brusakov.

Project 22800 Karakurt multi-purpose small missile ships were developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau and began to be built for the Navy in 2015. Construction is also underway at the Pella shipyard in the Leningrad region, the Zelenodolsk shipyard in Tatarstan and the Amur shipyard in the Khabarovsk Territory .

Ships of this class have a standard displacement of 800 tons and are designed to perform tasks in the near sea zone. Their armament is a universal complex with eight cells for Caliber and Onyx cruise missiles, as well as an AK-176MA automatic artillery gun and Igla and Pantsir-M air defense systems.

The maximum firing range of the 3M-14 cruise missile from the Caliber complex, flying at subsonic speed, is about 2000 km. The maximum mass of the warhead produced by “Caliber” is about 500 kg.
