The 810th Marine Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet was awarded the Order of Ushakov, said Black Sea Fleet Commander Viktor Sokolov. He noted that this is the first Marine Corps unit in history to receive such an award.

“By decree of the President of the Russian Federation, our 810th Marine Brigade is now not only the Order of Zhukov and the Guards, but also the Order of Ushakov. The first marine unit in the history of the navy to be awarded the Order of Ushakov,” Mr. Sokolov told reporters (quoted on the TV channel “Star”).

The Order of Ushakov was established in 1944. It was retained in the system of state awards of the Russian Federation, but until 2010 it did not have an official statute or official description. Later, changes were made to the statute and description, which made it possible to award the order not only to military personnel, but also to associations, military units and ships.
