Combat crews of the army corps of the Baltic Fleet conducted training firing from Iskander-M missile systems, reported on the website of the Russian Ministry of Defense.
“Having received the coordinates, the crews of the Iskander-M OTRK destroyed the command posts and satellite communication centers of the mock enemy, carrying out training (electronic) launches of cruise and aeroballistic missiles,” the message says.
The missilemen also completed tasks of changing launch positions, repelled an attack by a sabotage and reconnaissance group of a mock enemy, and camouflaged the launchers.
Last time Iskander-M crews exercised in the Kaliningrad region passed in mid-August.
The Iskander missile system has been developed since the late 1980s. and was adopted by Russian forces in 2006. It is designed to destroy ground targets, including air defense and missile defense systems, command posts and communication centers, concentrations of troops and equipment, warships, etc. The complex is capable of launching both ballistic and cruise missiles , which create false electronic interference when approaching the target and are practically invulnerable to enemy air defense systems.
At the end of September, the Russian Baltic Fleet spent exercises of coastal missile systems “Bal” on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. On September 21, the US Navy and the Danish Defense Forces conducted a joint military exercise using a containerized SM-6 missile launcher at Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. The SM-6 missile system is capable of intercepting threats from the air, including eliminating missiles in the last phase of their flight.
