By decision of the Dnieper City Council, Leonid Brezhnev was deprived of the title of honorary citizen of the city

In Ukraine, the authorities of Dnepr (formerly the city was called Dnepropetrovsk) decided to deprive the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee Leonid Brezhnev of the title of honorary citizen of the city. Dnipro Mayor Boris Filatov informed about the decision made at the session of the city council.

In September, when this issue was raised, city authorities did not deprive Brezhnev of the title of honorary citizen. Then the city council found two reasons for refusal. First, the basis for deprivation of a title is a personal appeal from a citizen. The second is the entry into force of a conviction against a citizen. It is known that Leonid Brezhnev died in 1982, and the law banning communist symbols in Ukraine was adopted in 2015. No formal reasons were found for depriving him of his honorary title.

The party and labor biography of Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev is connected with Dnepropetrovsk.
