In Crimea and Sevastopol, they will not hold a parade in honor of Victory Day on May 9, the processions of the Immortal Regiment have also been canceled. This was announced by the head of the Crimea Sergey Aksyonov.
“The authorities of the Republic of Crimea and the hero city of Sevastopol made a joint decision not to hold festive demonstrations on May 1, marches of the Immortal Regiment and a military parade on May 9,” wrote he is in his Telegram channel.
The decision was made for security reasons, Aksyonov explained. The head of Crimea noted that, despite the cancellation of events, “veterans will not be left without attention” – they will be visited by representatives of local authorities and congratulated on Victory Day.
Earlier, military parades on May 9 were canceled in the Belgorod and Kursk regions. Governor of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov declaredthat such a decision was made in order “not to provoke the enemy with a large accumulation of equipment and military personnel” in the city center. He added that the issue of holding fireworks on May 9, the procession of the “Immortal Regiment” and the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Prokhorov will be decided at the next meeting of the regional operational headquarters.
Governor of the Kursk Region Roman Starovoit referred on measures to strengthen anti-terrorist measures in the region, adding that the authorities will announce the format of the Immortal Regiment action later.
Commenting on the decisions of the governors, press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov emphasizedthat Moscow is not going to refuse to hold the parade. “As for the main parade, it is being prepared, planned,” he said.
Former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu informedthat more than 10,000 military and 125 pieces of equipment will take part in it in Moscow. This year, military parades will be held in 28 Russian cities. In total, more than 55,000 people and about 1,200 pieces of weapons and military equipment will be involved in them.
