The arms program for 2025-2034 will have a section on AI for the first time

In the state armaments program for 2025-2034. For the first time, a separate section on artificial intelligence (AI) will be provided, said Deputy Prime Minister of Russia – Minister of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov during a strategic session of the council of the military innovation technopolis “ERA” in Anapa.

The event was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Ministers of Defense and Minister of Industry and Trade, members of the military-industrial complex board, as well as the President of Kalashnikov Concern JSC Alan Lushnikov and other representatives of the government, military authorities and enterprises.

At the session, issues related to the development of artificial intelligence technologies in the interests of the Ministry of Defense were discussed – according to Manturov, this topic directly affects the content of program documents that will determine the technical appearance of weapons, military and special equipment for the next ten years.

“In the state armaments program for 2025-2034. For the first time, a separate section on artificial intelligence will be provided. Increased attention to artificial intelligence technologies is justified by the new realities of combat. The practice of using samples of military equipment in the Northern Military District shows that often not minutes, but seconds are allotted for decision-making. Without transferring a number of functions from military personnel to a machine, it is simply impossible to ensure such efficiency,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.

Chernyshenko added that the country is now actively developing a market for AI-based technologies that have the potential for a wide range of applications. He called for organizing an effective transfer of technologies available both for the security sector and for the entire market.

“The decisions that we develop today must be taken into account in the updated national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence until 2030. We expect its approval in the near future,” he said, recalling that the main directions of the AI ​​development strategy were approved in September at a strategic session under the leadership of Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin.

Chernyshenko previously spoke about the growth of the AI ​​market by 18% to 650 billion rubles. based on the results of 2022. He noted that work to update the national strategy for the development of artificial intelligence for the period until 2030 is being carried out against the background of the challenges facing the industry and the high potential for the use of technology.
