The Armenian parliament has begun to consider the issue of ratifying the Rome status of the ICC. This was reported on the parliament website.
During the meeting on October 3, parliamentarians intend to discuss the adoption of the Rome status of the ICC and the adoption of a declaration of retroactive recognition of the jurisdiction of the ICC in accordance with paragraph 3 of Article 12 of the statute.
According to Artsvik Minasyan, a deputy from the opposition “Armenia” faction, the country’s parliament is not competent to discuss the issue of ratification of the Rome Statute without constitutional reforms. He added that when discussing this issue, all possible risks for Yerevan should be taken into account, and the steps should be analyzed.
