The Armenian Defense Ministry announced the death of its military on the border with Azerbaijan

In the border zone, a conscript soldier of the Armenian Armed Forces died as a result of a shootout, reported in the press service of the Armenian Defense Ministry. According to the agency, the incident occurred in the south-east of the country on the evening of March 31 in conditions of extremely poor visibility.

The exchange of fire took place by the servicemen of the armed forces of Armenia, however, shots were also heard from the Azerbaijani side, the department said. An Armenian soldier died from a gunshot wound, another person was injured.

The Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan has not yet reported on the incident. March 30 in the department declaredthat in connection with the commissioning of the new Lachin road, several dominant heights, main and auxiliary roads, as well as a vast border area between the villages of Jagazur and Zabukh of the Lachin region, were taken under control.

Since the beginning of December 2022, the Armenian side has been talking about the actual blockade of the Lachin corridor in Karabakh by Azerbaijani activists, as a result of which there is a shortage of essential goods in Armenian settlements. Azerbaijan responds with accusations of smuggling weapons through the corridor.

On February 18, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev proposed to organize a checkpoint on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border in the area of ​​​​the Lachin corridor and the planned Zangezur corridor, which should connect the main Azerbaijani territory with Nakhchivan according to the November 2020 agreements. The Armenian Foreign Ministry opposed this proposal.
