The antimonopoly authority of Kazakhstan brought Yandex Taxi to justice

The Kazakhstan Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition brought Yandex Taxi to administrative responsibility for imposing application services on taxi companies, as well as refusing to provide data to the antimonopoly service. Currently, taxi companies’ commission for drivers is 4-8%.

“The company was brought to administrative responsibility for coordinating the economic activities of taxi companies, expressed in the imposition of technical support services for cash register software. Also, as part of the investigation, “Yandex Taxi” was brought to administrative responsibility for failure to provide information to the antimonopoly authority,” says the message on website departments.

Now Yandex Taxi in Kazakhstan must introduce a number of innovations: cancel the charging of a commission if the order is twice the base cost of the trip; introduce an additional bonus program for drivers, improve the application to increase the transparency of tariff formation; introduce a new tariff “Together”, which will allow you to order a taxi at a low price even during peak demand; and also introduce a “Children’s” tariff for ordering a car with a child seat.

In addition, the aggregator must limit the tariff increase to more than three times in conditions of maximum demand for taxi services: bad weather or holidays. No more than 5% of trips per quarter can cost above this level. The agency will also amend the legislation that will allow working directly with Yandex without taxi companies.

This year Yandex moved to Kazakhstan, servers serving the Yandex.kz domain and Yandex Go services “as part of the desire to strengthen partnerships and national digital resources.”
