Rosatom subsidiary denies preemptive ban on uranium supplies to the United States

Tenex (a subsidiary of Rosatom) called Bloomberg information about the possibility of a “preemptive” ban on the supply of enriched uranium to the United States from Russia unreliable. The company said the words were attributed to Tenex’s US unit.

“Neither Tenex itself nor the company’s subsidiaries made such notifications to their foreign customers,” the company told Kommersant.

Tenex emphasized that it has always fulfilled its contractual obligations in full and intends to do so in the future. “We highly value the trust of our foreign customers and consider any speculation on issues relating to our relationships with them as absolutely unacceptable,” Tenex assured.

Earlier, Bloomberg, citing sources wrotethat Russian uranium exporter JSC Techsnabexport (Tenex) has notified US clients of Russia’s likely ban on nuclear fuel exports in response to a similar law passed by US authorities on December 11. At the same time, the agency noted that the decision has not yet been made by the authorities.

According to the agency, electric companies Constellation Energy Corp. and Duke Energy Corp. received notices. and Dominion Energy Inc.

The United States in 2022 reduced the purchase of uranium raw materials from Russia by 24% year-on-year, to 4.78 million pounds of U3O8 equivalent. Uranium prices in 2022 rose to their highest since 2016, after which American consumers reduced purchases by 13%.
