Every year, the Russian Federation suffers economic losses due to the development of non-communicable chronic diseases in the population, such as heart and vascular diseases, diseases of the nervous system and oncological diseases. This was stated by State Duma deputy Airat Farrakhov during the SPIEF session “Health of the Nation: Smart Solutions for Modifying Risk Factors”.
“The annual losses of our country from non-communicable diseases amount to 3.6 trillion rubles. This is equivalent to the sum of all expenses of the Compulsory Medical Insurance Fund,” he said. He stressed that in this situation it is necessary to look for effective solutions that will help reduce harm to human health. These solutions, he said, should reduce the influence of factors that provoke the emergence of non-communicable diseases. These include malnutrition, lack of physical activity, excessive use of alcohol and tobacco.
So, in particular, as Sergey Katasonov, Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Orenburg Region for Interaction with Federal Authorities, noted, VTsIOM data show that since 2017 the number of smokers in Russia has stopped falling and has “frozen” at the same level. “We settled on the figure of 33%, and we can safely say that the prohibitive measures have completely exhausted themselves,” he said.
