“He thinks in the interests of Germany”
In early August, former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder called for the launch of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline amid problems with energy supply in Germany. Vladimir Olenchenko, senior researcher at the Center for European Studies at IMEMO RAS, believes that Schroeder took this position because he is worried about Germany, which is losing its authority and development opportunities.
In conversation with RT Olenchenko stressed that Schroeder belongs to the category of politicians called “statists”. The expert believes that the former chancellor of Germany “thinks in the interests of Germany.”
According to the analyst, the situation that has developed at the moment in the European Union and, in particular, in Germany, is really dramatic, but he is convinced that this drama is created artificially. Schroeder, in turn, is concerned about the fate of Germany and the fact that it is losing “competitiveness, authority and the possibility of further development,” Olenchenko said.
The expert added that the launch of Nord Stream 2 represents the normal functioning of the German economy and society, especially since the country has a great responsibility, since it is the leader of the EU. Olenchenko concluded that Schroeder acts in the interests of all of Europe and he is aware that business and the German population will support him.
