Russian Ambassador to Serbia Alexander Botan-Kharchenko, in an interview with Vedomosti, spoke about what the West threatens Serbian President Alexander Vucic because of his unwillingness to join anti-Russian sanctions.

“The West threatens Belgrade with “secondary sanctions” for refusing to join the restrictions against Russia. The EU and the US are trying to prove that Serbia, as a European candidate, must reconsider its foreign policy. (…) Specifically, the Serbs are told that, as a punishment, they can block accession negotiations, restrict access to EU funds, and suspend the visa-free regime. Threats are also being voiced about a possible curtailment of Western investments,” the Russian ambassador explained.

According to Botan-Kharchenko, such scenarios would be very painful for Serbia, as the country has taken a good pace of economic development.
