At present, there is no possibility for the evacuation of Russians from the Sudanese capital of Khartoum by air, RIA Novosti reports citing Russian Ambassador to Sudan Andrei Chernovol.
As noted, this is due to the fact that active battles are being waged at the airport.
On Saturday, the Sudanese armed forces said that the process of evacuating the diplomatic missions of those countries that request it from Sudan will begin in the coming hours. Thus, the United States, Great Britain, France and China plan to take their citizens out of Khartoum by air.
Chernovol recalled that until the end of April, a no-fly regime operates over the territory of Sudan. “Probably, exceptions can be made for the evacuation aviation of different countries, while there is no talk of air evacuation from Khartoum,” he said.
Earlier it was reported that diplomats from Saudi Arabia were evacuated from Khartoum to the city of Port Sudan, and from there to their homeland, a similar method is being considered for the Jordanian diplomatic mission. According to Chernovol, this option is theoretically possible, but there are many difficulties in logistics.
“I mean the need to have the right vehicles, and traveling on the road, where it is almost impossible to get gasoline, also requires appropriate escort. The road takes a long time, and carrying women and children almost 900 kilometers is a difficult task,” he said.
Since April 15, fighting has been going on in Sudan between the rapid reaction forces and the regular army.
