The Aerospace Forces demolished an airfield in the Lviv region that could receive an F-16

In the dead of night on March 24, the Russian Aerospace Forces launched a massive attack on military targets in Kyiv and the Lviv region with long-range cruise missiles Kh-101 and drones “Geran-2”. More than a dozen arrivals in the area of ​​the Stryi military airfield in the Lviv region are noted on Ukrainian social networks. This is a former Soviet airfield capable of receiving all types of aircraft. It is assumed that this is where the first F-16 fighters were supposed to fly. Now their arrival may be greatly delayed.

As military blogger Yuriy Podolyaka reported with reference to his sources, throughout the night “Geranis” in small groups opened the enemy’s air defense system. And the main attack began at about 5:00. The two main strikes were carried out in the Kyiv area (three powerful arrivals were reported) and in the Lviv region (more than a dozen arrivals in the Stryi area).

According to the blogger, the airfield in Stryi appears to have been the main target of today’s strikes. “There has never been such a concentration of arrivals in such a small area at once,” the blogger noted.

Later, the mayor of Lvov reported that approximately 20 cruise missiles and 7 Geraniums flew across the region. There has never been such a concentrated attack on one place in the Northern Military District.

Two days ago, in the Stryisky district, an energy infrastructure facility was also hit, where a fire was recorded.

What is the airfield in Stryi known for? It is unique in that it can accommodate aircraft of all types. During Soviet times, long-range bombers Tu-22M3, Tu-16, as well as MiG-23 fighters were based here.

This is a large air base, located as far as possible from the eastern borders of Ukraine.

Such an object cannot be hit with one missile, unless, of course, it is equipped with a nuclear warhead. But at any airfield there are several key facilities, without which the aviation unit cannot function. This is, for example, a storage facility for fuels and lubricants, a warehouse for aviation ammunition, and a technical and operational unit – a fuel and power unit. Moreover, the TECH is not just a hangar; it is crammed with high-tech equipment, without which it is impossible to carry out pre-flight, post-flight, and warranty maintenance of aircraft.

Obviously, all these objects became the target for our videoconferencing. NATO countries promised to supply F-16 aircraft to Ukraine in the summer. Most likely, specialists to service them are already on the territory of Ukraine, including in Stryi. After a concentrated strike on the airfield, the process of transferring the F-16 to Ukraine may be very delayed.
