“The action is demonstrative” – Kommersant FM

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has put a number of Estonian high officials on the wanted list, including the head of government, Kaja Kallas. The reason is a widespread campaign to demolish monuments to Soviet soldiers. The Prime Minister called her persecution fictitious and promised to continue to support Ukraine. The European Commission said it is studying the reports received. Meanwhile, Callas has long been under pressure from the opposition because of her husband’s Russian business. Kommersant FM political commentator Dmitry Drize does not rule out that Moscow’s actions will help the prime minister of an unfriendly country in its own way.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation has put Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, Secretary of State Taimar Peterkop, and Lithuanian Culture Minister Simonas Kairys on the wanted list. One can venture to assume that this action is of a certain demonstrative nature, in order to once again demonstrate the negative essence of the former Western partners. At the same time, Estonia is one of the most unfriendly countries of all the others. Although theoretically one can argue with this.

Be that as it may, at first a dry, colorless entry appeared on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, saying that certain citizens were put on the wanted list without specifying the reasons. This aroused great interest in the media and the progressive public. As a result, after a not very long pause at the Moscow Art Theater, first sources and then the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that people on the list should answer for desecrating history and demolishing Soviet monuments, including those of liberating soldiers. And this is the first official persecution by the Russian Federation of a legitimate leader of a foreign state.

Estonia is a parliamentary republic. Accordingly, the Prime Minister heads the executive vertical of power. Kaya Callas reacted and called the fact of her persecution fictitious. She stressed that all this will not silence her, she will continue to support Ukraine and strengthen European defense.

By the way, Tallinn is one of the most active supporters of the arrest and seizure of frozen Russian assets. There are doubts that Prime Minister Callas will face any serious difficulties. And here’s what’s interesting: the opposition has been trying to resign the head of the Estonian government for quite some time. What’s the matter? And the fact is that her legal husband Arvo Hallik literally until recently did business with Russia – he is involved in logistics, and this is one of the most promising areas.

The wife denounces the Russian Federation day by day and even demolishes monuments, while the husband earns money with Russian help. Callas is not going to resign, and Mr. Hallik, he cannot let his clients down, continues to work with them, although he has officially renounced this. And so, it seems that Moscow, in its own way, supported the hostile prime minister. How do you resign when this happens?

In general, there is such a story, both glorified in literature and simply in life, when, on the one hand, someone is unfriendly and even an enemy, but, on the other hand, it seems that they are not. As for the principles, these are all lyrics, because reality often looks completely different. The main thing is not to be disappointed. Politics is the art of the possible, and sometimes it is a very dirty business.
