In Ukraine, infections resistant to antibiotics are becoming increasingly common, RIA Novosti reports, citing an article by the British newspaper Telegraph.

It is noted that this was one of the consequences of the ongoing military conflict.

“Hospitals in Ukraine are battling an alarming rise in drug-resistant infectious diseases as fighting continues,” the Telegraph writes.

According to the newspaper, the trend requires urgent action. Thus, the study showed that about 14% of patients became ill with this infection after hospitalization. About 60% have an infection that is resistant to carbapenem, a class of highly effective antibiotics used for severe bacterial infections.

Earlier, the head of the RKhBZ troops, Igor Kirillov, said that the Ministry of Defense has documents confirming the participation of the American Army Institute in the study of microbial resistance to antibiotics in Ukraine.
