On April 5, President of the Republic of China in Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen met with Speaker of the US House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy in the American Simi Valley (California). The building of the Presidential Library of Ronald Reagan was chosen as the meeting place. Before the meeting, Cai said her team would hold several events “to continue fighting for Taiwan’s diplomacy.” At the time of submission of the issue, detailed information on the results of the meeting was not published.
The Chinese consulate in Los Angeles, even before the start of the visit on April 4, “strongly opposed” Tsai’s transit trip, adding that her meeting with the number three in US politics “is not conducive to regional peace, security and stability.” They also noted that such talks “would greatly hurt the national feelings of 1.4 billion Chinese” and undermine “the political foundation of Sino-US relations.”
