TAG Heuer New: Monza Returns, More Connected Smartwatches

At LVMH’s corporate showcase, Watch Week, held in Singapore, group brand TAG Heuer showcased its first novelties for 2023. They belong both to the high-tech segment (the Connected smartwatch powered by the Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph solar energy) and to those inspired by the brand’s rich historical heritage (Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Edition, Monza).

The popular collection of Connected smartwatches has been replenished with three models in a titanium case with a matte black DLC coating: Caliber E4 42 mm (previously blackened Connected were produced in cases with a diameter of 45 mm, now a version reduced to 42 mm has appeared), Caliber E4 Golf Edition 42 mm with new score tracking and advice on choosing the best club to hit, and the Caliber E4 Sport Edition 45 mm with the new Trail & Hiking app for runners and trekkers.

About the Aquaracer Professional 200 Solargraph watch with a translucent dial that allows the Solargraph quartz movement to be recharged from artificial and daylight, Kommersant Style in detail told last spring. Then the model was presented in a steel case with a diameter of 40 mm, but now it appeared in titanium of the same size, which is lighter and more appropriate for use “in the open air”.

The Monza, first introduced in 1976 and named after a circuit near Milan, has returned to the TAG Heuer line. The chronograph has been periodically reissued since the early 2000s, each time retaining the cushion-shaped case characteristic of the original. This time it is made of a fairly rare brand of carbon and has a diameter of 42 mm. The case back is made of black PVD-coated titanium, while the crown and chronograph pushers are made of black DLC-coated steel. Framed by a flange with tachymeter and heart rate scales, the skeletonized dial with smoky blue elements, as well as through the sapphire caseback window, reveal details of the automatic in-house caliber Heuer 02 Flyback (with a return chronograph), which is COSC certified for extremely precise watches.

Finally, as part of the Carrera Chronograph 60th Anniversary Celebration in 2023, a vintage-inspired anniversary model is released in a limited edition of 600 individually numbered pieces. It was based on the Carrera Ref. 2447 SN late 1960s. The modern replica carefully preserves the features of the original: a panda-type dial (black chronograph counters on a silver background of the main dial), double hour markers, shape and coloring of the hands, chronograph mushroom buttons, the historical Heuer logo. Of course, the usual flat mineral crystal of the 1960s gave way to domed sapphire, and the hand-wound hand-wound Valjoux movement was replaced by an automatic manufactory Heuer 02 with an 80-hour power reserve. The case is steel, with a diameter of 39 mm.
