Syria lost $100 billion in the oil and gas sector due to US actions

From US actions in Syria, the country’s economy has lost about $ 100 billion in the oil and gas sector, informed TASS with reference to letters sent by the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to UN Secretary General António Guterres and the UN Security Council.

“Syria’s losses in the oil and gas sector as a result of various actions of the American occupying forces amount to $107.1 billion,” the Foreign Ministry said.

The United States and a number of other states intervened in the civil war in Syria in September 2014 under the pretext of fighting terrorist groups. Back in September 2018, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova notedthat the United States is artificially prolonging the conflict and destabilizing the situation in the republic. The representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs noted that the US authorities are trying to “get an excuse for maintaining an illegal armed presence on Syrian soil.”

The destructive line of the United States and Western countries in Syria does not contribute to the stabilization of the situation in the country, declared Russian President Vladimir Putin at a trilateral meeting of the heads of state – guarantors of the Astana process, held in July this year. Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi emphasizedthat US troops should leave Syria and the region “as soon as possible.” He accused the United States of stealing resources from Syria, including oil, and also condemned Israeli strikes on Syrian territory. Official Damascus has repeatedly put forward similar demands to the United States.

Joint statements by Putin, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Raisi following the July 19 talks said that Syria’s problems should be resolved politically and that a lasting peace should be established in the country.
