Sweden is not going to place nuclear weapons on its territory after joining NATO. This was stated by Foreign Minister of this country Tobias Billstrom. The diplomat said that Stockholm would follow the example of its neighbors – Norway and Denmark, where there are no such weapons. Billstrom’s words are quoted by Reuters.
“This is still the long-term position of the Moderate Coalition Party… We have never tried to revise the terms of the application submitted by the previous government,” – said the head of the Foreign Ministry.
Thus, the head of the Swedish Foreign Ministry denied the reports of the Swedish media. The day before, a Swedish newspaper wrote about the possibility of nuclear weapons appearing on the territory of Sweden after joining NATO.
At the same time, back in June, NATO Assistant Secretary General Camille Grand noted that no one in the alliance spoke about the deployment of nuclear warheads in Scandinavia. At the same time, he stressed that hardly anyone would give Moscow guarantees on this matter.
