Sweden may name the culprit in the undermining of the Nord Streams in the fall

The investigation into the sabotage at Nord Stream is nearing completion, Sweden hopes to find the person responsible for the incident and bring charges in the fall of 2023, prosecutor Mats Jungkvist, who is in charge of the case, said in an interview with Swedish Radio.

“It seems to me that we are approaching the final stage. The investigation may be completed in the fall. I hope that at least in the fall we will be able to take a stand on the issue of the prosecution, ”he said (quote according to TASS).

Jungkvist recalled that traces of explosives were found at the bottom. According to him, the explosives have a “special composition”, which allows Swedish investigators to draw “certain conclusions”. The prosecutor noted that in the course of the investigation, Swedish officers met with German colleagues. Jungkvist specified that he himself was present at the meeting with the German prosecutor and other investigators.

The preliminary investigation concluded that the government was behind the sabotage, Jungqvist said. He added that the investigation only reinforced those suspicions.

The day before, June 13, the Dutch NOS and Nieuwsuur and the German Die Zeit and ARD published a joint investigation alleging that the US CIA was informed of Ukraine’s plans to blow up Nord Stream in June 2022 and warned Kyiv against the move. As a result, the pipeline sabotage occurred three months later, at the end of September. The Wall Street Journal writesthat the CIA believed that Kyiv abandoned plans to organize sabotage after a US warning.

The explosion at Nord Stream occurred on September 26, 2022. Two leaks subsequently discovered were in the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of Sweden, and two more were in the Danish EEZ. Initially, Germany, Sweden and Denmark agreed to conduct a joint investigation, but this idea was later abandoned. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, stating “increasing suspicions of gross sabotage”, but those responsible for what happened were not named.

On February 8, American journalist Seymour Hersh published his investigation into the incident on the gas pipelines, in which he called the United States and Norway involved in the undermining. The White House and the European Commission called this information unreliable.

A month later, a number of Western media, citing new US intelligence reported about the possible involvement in the sabotage of a certain “pro-Ukrainian group”. It was also emphasized that the United States has no data on Russia’s participation in the operation. In Kyiv, involvement in the incident is denied.

Also in the Kremlin doubted in this information and called the messages “coordinated stuffing.” In September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin accused the “Anglo-Saxons” of the explosions at Nord Stream. “It is clear to everyone who benefits from this. Whoever benefits, he did, ”he said.
