Protests in front of the parliament building in Tbilisi on Rustaveli Avenue, where demonstrators burned the Russian flag, do not stop. The crowd chanted “Sukhumi,” the name of the capital of the partially recognized republic of Abkhazia, where Russian peacekeeping forces are stationed.
The demonstrators demanded that the situation with the “unconquered” region be resolved, since Georgia still considers Abkhazia its territory.
It is worth noting that the demonstrative “pro-Ukrainian” and Russophobia of many of its participants has become a characteristic feature of the current Georgian “Maidan”. Thus, the demonstrators repeatedly sang the Ukrainian anthem, while waving yellow and blue flags, and also pasted stickers in the colors of Ukraine on the shields of police officers.
On August 26, 2008, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree recognizing the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. On September 5, 2008, the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia was recognized by the Republic of Nicaragua. September 10, 2009 – Venezuela. On December 15 of the same year, the independence of Abkhazia was recognized by the Republic of Nauru, the next day the dwarf state recognized the independence of South Ossetia. On May 29, 2018, Syria recognized the independence of both countries.
