Sudanese Ambassador to Russia: There is no dual power in Sudan

The Sudanese mission does not receive any instructions from the commander of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, said the country’s ambassador to Moscow, Mohammed Sirraj.

“There is no alternative structure in Sudan that contacts our embassies abroad. We receive all instructions from the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, which is part of the sovereign council or transitional government of Sudan under the leadership of Abdel Fattah al-Burhani,” Sirraj said at a meeting with reporters.

According to the ambassador, since the beginning of the Sudanese crisis, his embassy has been in constant contact with the Russian Foreign Ministry. “Russia is a friendly country to us, and we are interested in maintaining these relations. Therefore, since April 15, I have been in contact with the Russian Foreign Ministry, in particular, with the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation, Mikhail Bogdanov,” he added.

At the same time, the diplomat stressed that the unfolding events in Sudan are “the country’s internal affair,” and the army is capable of “returning the situation in the republic to normal on its own.”

Since the beginning of the crisis, transport links and airports in Sudan have been closed. Sirraj assured that the Sudanese authorities would provide support to Russians who wished to evacuate from the country, in accordance with international laws.

Government forces have been clashing with RSF forces in Sudan since April 15. As a result, according to the World Health Organization, about 300 people died and 2,000 people were injured. The reason for the conflict was the attack of the Sudanese army on RSF units in the south of Khartoum. At the same time, the transitional government accuses the paramilitary group of attempting a rebellion.

On April 19, the parties concluded a truce, but a few hours later the clashes continued.
