Subsidies for the transportation of goods by sea to the Kaliningrad region will apply to those goods that are subject to EU sanctions and cannot be transported through the territory of Lithuania, said the Governor of the region Anton Alikhanov.
“Subsidizing will apply to those goods or to those groups of goods that are subject to restrictions in one way or another. That is, it is either directly sanctioned cargo, or cargo that is quota-bound and subject to restrictions on quotas by the European Union for rail transportation,” he said during a live broadcast on VKontakte (quote according to TASS).
In addition, the governor noted that a meeting was held with the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, the approval of the Ministry of Finance is expected, after which the corresponding resolution can be adopted.
Earlier, the deputy chairman of the regional government, Dmitry Kuskov, said that state subsidies to compensate for the prices of goods transported by sea would be introduced in early autumn. It is planned to allocate 4 billion rubles for this. It also became known that Russian President Vladimir Putin on September 1 will visit Kaliningrad with a working trip.
In early June, the Lithuanian authorities announced that they would no longer allow goods to Kaliningrad that fell under sanctions. However, the European Commission concluded that transit to the region should not be restricted subject to traffic control. As a result, transit by rail was resumed, but the ban on road transport remained. August 25 Lithuania announced about tightening control of cargo on the border with Russia to ensure the implementation of European sanctions: more employees began to be engaged in inspection, including from other departments, in addition, analytical control was strengthened.
