Diesel-electric submarines (DEPL) of project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” will receive the names of the cities of new regions of Russia, TASS reports, citing a source in the naval sphere.
The crew of the diesel-electric submarine of project 636.3 “Varshavyanka” is 52 people. The submarine is capable of descending to a depth of 300 m. It is equipped, in particular, with six torpedo tubes, Caliber cruise missiles and Igla-1 man-portable anti-aircraft missile systems.
“The first building will be named after Mariupol. Over time, the boats will be given the names of other cities of Donbass, ”says the agency’s interlocutor.
Earlier, a TASS source in the military-industrial complex reported that a series of six Varshavyanka submarines would be laid down for the Northern Fleet. At the same time, the interlocutor of the agency noted that the decision to build them has already been made, but the corresponding contract has not yet been signed. The implementation of the agreement will not begin until 2024, the source said.
Earlier today, April 25, the press service of the Pacific Fleet informed on the conduct of exercises by submarines of the Varshavyanka project in the Sea of Japan.
