Stunning new footage of the decaying wreckage

VIDEO – The Ocean Gate Expedition delivers images of extraordinary precision of what remains of the liner lying at a depth of nearly 4000 meters in the North Atlantic, about 600 kilometers from the coast of Newfoundland.
More than 110 years have passed and the fascination still operates. On the night of April 14 to 15, 1912, the titanic sank taking nearly 1,500 people in the most infamous shipwreck in the world. The luxurious liner of the White Star Line was however supposed to be unsinkable.
Discovered in 1985, the wreck has given rise to numerous expeditions for fascinating explorations which, over time, have always revealed a little more of its secrets. In 2021, the company specializing in seabed exploration Ocean Gate inaugurated an expedition of the wreck lying at a depth of nearly 4000 meters in the North Atlantic about 600 kilometers from the coast of Newfoundland.
The first images of extraordinary precision have just been released. Shot in 8K, they notably reveal the state of decomposition of the wreck. The public can see the famous “rusticles”, a kind of brownish stalactites formed by rust, gnawing and weakening the hull of the liner in a worrying way.

“At the start of the video you can see the crane used to deploy the massive fifteen tonne anchor still on the wreckage deck and the shackle which was originally attached to the main mast which has now collapsed »said in a statement Paul-Henri Nargeolet, great Titanic specialist who took part in the expedition.
Moving images recalling that the wreck could disappear forever carrying with it the most captivating and frightening testimony of the naval history of the 20th century. Nevertheless, there will remain other striking images provided by James Cameron’s film, Titanic. Or the moving stories of the castaways.
“It was a quarter past ten in the evening when the Titanic and the ice floe met”, reported on April 20, 1912 Le Figaro from the words of survivors. “It was not from the front, but abeam that it struck. It was then that everyone who was standing rushed to the deck. The shouts, the hubbub woke those who had already retired to their cabin and who came in their turn on deck. However, we did not yet realize the extent of the disaster. The officers reassured the passengers, but it seems that the officers themselves did not then think that the collision was as serious as it was. And, in fact, as there was a ball on board, to celebrate the Sunday evening, the music played gay and joyful tunes. It was only half an hour later that full awareness of the seriousness of the situation began to dawn on passengers and officers alike”.
