Stoltenberg announced the provision of unprecedented military assistance to Ukraine

NATO and its partners have provided Ukraine with unprecedented military assistance since the winter, declared Alliance Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg in an interview with the Washington Post.

“Since the winter, there have been unprecedented deliveries of new weapons and ammunition, spare parts and training,” Stoltenberg said. He also said that the alliance and partners have trained more than nine brigades, which are now “fully staffed.”

On May 8, the Minister of National Security of Poland announced that the republic had delivered 10 MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. The Kremlin, commenting on the deliveries, said that in this way Western countries “are engaged in the disposal of old unnecessary equipment.”

Russia’s special operation in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022. In response, the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Japan and the EU countries imposed large-scale sanctions against the Russian Federation, and also began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. In January, Germany announced the delivery of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Kyiv, and the United States – 31 M1 Abrams. Poland, Finland, Norway, Spain and other EU countries also announced plans to transfer tanks to Kyiv.

The Russian authorities have repeatedly criticized the supply of Western weapons to the Ukrainian army. The Kremlin said that the supply of tanks to Kyiv would not change the situation in the special operation zone, but would “add problems” for Ukraine. And the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, has previously warned that pumping up Ukraine with weapons brings NATO closer to the dangerous line of a direct military clash with Russia.
